how to copy and paste a file/directory from my root's desktop to my user account

desktop from the terminal? i av a directory/file 'garden' in my root's home (on the desktop).which command would i use to copy and paste the dir/file on my user home account(to be pasted on the desktop).all this will be done on the terminal.
