Default Installing server 2003 or 2008 (when it comes out) on a top of the line...

...consumer computer.? Im buying a new computer soon with these specs: at least a 2ghz core 2 quad or Phenom, 3-4gb RAM, 500+gb HDD, at least a 256MB video card, etc. If i install server 2003 or server 2008 on it, will there be complete compatibility with regular consumer programs, and how much more efficiently will it run those programs? Im very computer literate, but i need someone else's opinion.

Ah, these are not really "consumer" operating systems. They are tuned to run a host of special services and not the typical consumer front-ends. Could they run the same games, word processors etc.? I expect so--but I think it would be overkill.

better to run the server os in a virtual machine that can stay running 100% of the time, or run the working os (non server based) in a virtual machine ( i suggest the first method)p.s. as a server if your using any form of file service then you would consider upgrade the hard drives to a multiple drive array like raid5 ect.
