Default why is it after i "safely remove hardware" my card reader won't detect an SD memory

stick? I can't even find it when I click on my computer/C drive/ it just doesn't show up. I have to restart the computer for it to detect it again. How can i resolve this problem??
the card reader is built into the pc

A lot of times -- this happens with my Windows 2000 computer -- if you don't click on safely remove hardware, whatever changes you just made to the device aren't saved. It's less of a big deal in XP and Vista, but never hurts to do anyway. As previously mentioned, you need not restart your puter, merely unplug and replug the card reader.
